Cosmetic dentistry is designed to give you a more beautiful smile. Few features have the power to put others at ease as quickly as a confident smile, and nothing can help a person smile with more confidence than a mouth full of healthy-looking, straight, white teeth.
Dr. Kosdon has perfected a number of procedures designed to give patients great looking teeth. The treatments are all safe, effective, and simple to perform. There's no reason to be dissatisfied with your teeth; let Dr. Kosdon give you a smile you can be proud of. Read on for specific information about some of the cosmetic procedures offered at his practice.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain Veneers are very thin custom-designed dental restorations that are bonded directly on to the front of the teeth. If chipped, broken, worn, stained teeth are stopping you from smiling confidently then porcelain veneers are the answer to your problem. In as little as two visits you can become the proud owner of a dazzling beautiful straight smile that you have always wanted. Dr Michael Kosdon expertise with porcelain veneer restorations can mask crooked teeth and correct unevenness of spacing between teeth.
The wafer-thin porcelain veneers require little tooth preparation and you lose a negligible amount of enamel. The veneers are extremely durable and will last for many years. They are also very resistant to permanent staining from tea, coffee, nicotine from cigarettes, etc. Dr Kosdon will guide you in selecting a veneer shade that matches the whiteness of your natural teeth. Because porcelain veneer can mimic the look and feel of tooth enamel, it is an ideal material to use for filling superficial cracks and correcting chipped teeth.
Crowns and Bridges
Teeth that are badly weakened by decay or trauma may require more treatment than basic fillings. Chipped, cracked, weakened, or decaying teeth can be strengthened with crowns, which cover (cap) the entire tooth. Fixed bridges are also a popular choice for patients with missing teeth because they are the same size, shape, and color as natural teeth.
Now made with porcelain or other tooth colored resin, crowns or bridges can be as pleasing aesthetically as they are functionally.
Tooth-Colored Fillings
The same material used to create porcelain veneers, crowns, and bridges is also being utilized for more common treatments like cavity fillings. Old silver amalgam fillings tended to leak and expand outward as they aged, often causing teeth to crack. Of course, silver fillings are also unsightly. White fillings solve all these problems. White composite resin restorations are bonded tightly to teeth; there is no leakage and no expansion. And because tooth-colored fillings are made from materials similar in texture and color to natural teeth, teeth with white fillings are virtually indistinguishable from surrounding teeth.
Dental Implants
For patients who have missing teeth, dental implants are the best treatment available. Dental implants perform just like natural teeth. If you have healthy gums and jaws, a qualified oral surgeon can implant an anchoring device into your jaw. Once your gums have grown around the implant, a strong, artificial tooth designed to match your existing teeth can be attached to the anchor. The replacement tooth will look and function just like a natural tooth.
Invisalign®
Invisalign® is an ingenious new system designed to straighten teeth discreetly, with inconspicuous aligners rather than metal brackets. The Invisalign® system uses clear, custom-made aligners to gradually move teeth into proper alignment. Patients progress to a new aligner every few weeks. The aligners are clear and thin, and also removable, making eating, drinking, and brushing much simpler.
Zoom!™ Teeth Whitening
Zoom!™ teeth whitening is the most effective tooth whitening treatment available today. The Zoom!™ system whitens teeth using a special whitening light and a hydrogen peroxide-based bleaching gel. During treatment, the Zoom!™ Whitening Gel is applied to the teeth and then heated with the Zoom!™ Whitening Lamp. The heat activates the gel, which penetrates the teeth's surface to lift out stains. Zoom!™ can whiten teeth by six to ten shades in just one office visit.
